Modern Nurian has a typologically unusual distinction between dental and alveolar stops and between many types of fricatives:
*t d = alveolar stops
*th = alveolar spirants (slit fricatives, often pronounced as Welsh ll)
*ŧ đ = dental stops
*ŧh = dental spirants
*s z = dental/alveolar sibilants
*ṡ ż = postalvelar sibilants
 
Vowels: <nowiki><a e i/y o u æ ie ea eo></nowiki> /A e i o u æ y ea ø/ all with short and long counterparts
