Scots Norse

Etymology

Reduced form of sic, from Old Norse sik, from Proto-Germanic *sek. Doublet of -th

Pronunciation

Pronoun

-sc

  1. affixed form of the reflexive pronoun; -self
Usage Notes

When affixed to a pronoun, it makes the final consonant(s) slender, it is also affected by mutation. For example, "ho" + "-sc" > "hoezsc", notice how the mutated "-s-" is still written in the style expected of word initial consonants.
